The Syrian crisis has resulted in the displacement of thousands of civilians to neighbouring countries (more than 55,000 in total, as per 10th May, 2012). According to UNHCR estimates, around 10,000 displaced are in the under-developed Akkar region; 91% of them are hosted by Lebanese families and the rest live in collective shelters. The financial burden on individual host families and communities is heavy and resources of the displaced are meagre.

Protective host shelter environment for 3500 displaced Syrians is improved over 10 months through support to hosting capacities and household development of 500 host families as well as community development projects in 2-4 communities hosting displaced Syrians in Akkar region (Wadi Khaled and Akroum).

3500 displaced Syrians are able to remain sheltered by host families for at least 6 months. 500 host families are able to engage in mid- to long-term household development activities. 10,000 persons in 2-4 communities hosting displaced Syrians benefit from community development initiatives.
