Evaluation
An evaluation means judging the results and effectiveness of projects, programs and strategies. The SDC's work, including cooperation with its partners, is evaluated systematically and critically. Evaluations promote institutional learning, offer management support in making decisions and at the same time serve as a means of accounting to politicians and the general public for any actions taken.
Each evaluation involves the following central questions:- What does an action, i.e. project, program or strategy, achieve?
- What are the direct and indirect effects, e.g. regarding sustainability and poverty alleviation?
- How is development progress realized, i.e. what success factors and obstacles/risks are responsible for any resulting effects?
The SDC distinguishes between the following types of evaluations:
- Implementation, and Impact Analysis Controlling (IIAC) which focus on accountability
- Reviews which focus on learning, on management, as well as on self-assessment of activities and results
The evaluations planned in the SDC in these categories can be found in the evaluation activities.
