A commitment to coordinate poverty reduction
Poverty reduction is the foremost goal in all SDC activities. Poverty Reduction Strategies, PRS, are outlined, implemented and assessed in a participatory approach by developing nations and countries in transition, together with civil society, financial institutions and bilateral development partners.
Increasingly, these key documents will become a primary frame of reference for the SDC's bilateral and multilateral activities. In collaboration with the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (seco), a High Level Statement on the PRS has been prepared. In this position paper, the SDC has defined more clearly how it intends to proceed with regard to the PRS in its programme countries and in the multilateral field. In its Mission Statement, the SDC commits itself to increase support for national PRS and, consequently, to a more focussed approach to poverty reduction. The SDC is also committed to improve coordination between individual donors and national strategies.- High Level Statement - Switzerland's open pledge to supporting strategies to fight poverty
