In order to improve the work of operational humanitarian agencies in the field, OCHA has been delivering professional development and training on humanitarian coordination for HCs and members of the HC pool. At the management level, OCHA organizes every two years a Global Management Retreat (GMR) to build a solid and more unified OCHA management team , with a shared vision of OCHA priorities for the years.

The overall goal is to contribute to an improved and more effective humanitarian coordination system, ultimately ensuring that humanitarian assistance meets the needs of affected populations.

HC Retreats:

• Strengthening of the humanitarian coordination system by developing the individual skills, knowledge and careers of current HCs and RCs and future ones (HC Pool members).

GMR:

• Endorsement of OCHA forward strategy by wide cross-section of OCHA management.
• Review of progress made against the 2010-13 Strategic Framework.
• Assessment of key management issues, including updates with new Senior Management (new ASG expected to on board by July 2013).

OCHA

HC Retreat: HCs, RCs and HC Pool members. GMR: OCHA\'s Senior Management Team, Heads of Country and Regional Offices and select Section Chiefs from headquarters sections and units.

• HC Retreats: the capacity of HCs and RCs to provide timely, effective and principled humanitarian leadership and coordination in emergencies to ensure that assistance meets the needs of affected populations was strengthened.
• GMR: contributed to build a solid and more unified OCHA management team , with a shared vision of OCHA priorities for the next two years. Particular focus was placed on the IASC transformative agenda under development at the time.
