Focus on Trade

Small producers in developing countries face immense challenges. Yet the fact is that they too can benefit from the global division of labour if they are given, for instance in the domain of high-quality goods (including bio and fair-trade products), the possibility of producing a greater added value. What are the roles played by the various actors involved – from the farmers in Tanzania, through the enterprises active on the global scale, right down to the consumers in Switzerland?

Film Tanzania – The KILICAFE-Project
“TechnoServe”, a US-based non-profit organization, started a programme with the aim of making Tanzanian coffee globally competitive in order to benefit small scale farmers and their families. The objective of the project was to double the income of each farmer by raising the quality of the coffee and the productivity of the coffee-producers.
