Operation: In Search of Africa - Differing Perspectives on the theme of migration

The objective of the series of reports entitled “In Search of Africa” is to bring Swiss and African media closer together. Seven tandem teams, composed of radio, television, and print journalists, delve into the theme of migration from differing perspectives. Supported by the SDC, this Operation was conducted in partnership with InfoSud, the “Centre romand de formation des journalistes”, and the Hirondelle Foundation.

Migration -
Two sides of the same coin

There have been migratory movements since time immemorial. In the current globalization context, they represent a major challenge to governments which have to manage their positive aspects while combating the negative ones. The SDC is fully aware of this duality.

Migration triggers phenomena that require countries to cooperate closely on  reducing risk and supporting potential. Moreover, conflict management is a useful tool in combating forced migration. Consequently, the SDC is active in two development policy areas that play a role in poverty reduction:

Human trafficking, remittances and international migration control
SDC work centres on combating human trafficking and encouraging dialogue with States and diasporas.
