Switzerland has been actively assisting Serbia and Montenegro since 1991, initially concentrating mainly on humanitarian projects. In 1999, the focus shifted to programmes of long-term technical cooperation within the framework of transition support.

Following Montenegro’s independence in 2006, the cooperation programme has been focusing on Serbia. The goal of the current Cooperation Strategy 2010 – 2013 is to provide support for Serbia’s European integration. Montenegro continues to participate in regional programmes financed by Switzerland.
