BOLIVIA.GIFBolivia is a priority country for Swiss development cooperation. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) focuses its activities primarily on the rural highlands and the adjoining valleys. It is particularly active in three domains, i.e., democracy-building and the rule of law, natural resources and the environment, and employment and income. Swiss Humanitarian Aid is present in Bolivia within the scope of its regional Disaster-Risk-Reduction (DRR) Programme.

The humanitarian needs in Bolivia are both numerous and diverse. They are a result not only of poverty, but also of the vulnerability of the population to natural disasters, e.g., flooding, and to epidemics, e.g., Dengue fever. Swiss humanitarian aid is implementing its Disaster-Risk-Reduction (DRR) Programme 2007-2010 for the Andean countries with particular focus on Bolivia. This is the reason why it switched the job posting of the competent assistant country director from Lima to La Paz in early 2009. The regional DRR Programme’s objectives are:
