United Nations Volunteers
United Nations Volunteers, UNV, has its
headquarters in Bonn from where it recruits and places experts from developing and industrialized countries as volunteers for operations in development cooperation.
The UNV Programme mobilizes over 7,500 volunteers every year on both the national and international levels. More than 75% of the UN volunteers come from developing countries, and over 40% serve as
volunteers in their own country.
The UN Volunteers assist in organizing and conducting local and national elections, and support numerous humanitarian as well as peace-promotion projects. The UNV works closely with governments, civil society organizations and other organizations, funds and programmes of the United Nations.
Organizationally, UNV is integrated with the UNDP. The Swiss contribution to the UNV 2009 amounted to CHF 800,000.
