Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit - SHA

The Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit (SHA) is a militia corps with a pool of at least 700 people ready for duty and who are divided up into professional groups according to their knowledge and abilities. The SHA is one of the Swiss government's humanitarian aid instruments which is available for direct actions and supports international organizations with its specialists ("secondment").

A first-hand account of the link between food and security
 Despite the vast experience of humanitarian aid agencies like the United Nations World Food Programm (WFP) in handling crises such as the one reaching a critical stage in the Darfur region, budget constraints as well as the unavailability of experienced experts sometimes pushes these organisations to the limit of their ability to fulfil their mandates. In such cases, the WFP asks donor countries and partners, such as Switzerland, for assistance.
