The SDC’s HR strategy

The SDC has developed its own human resources policy based on the Agency's guidelines and organizational strategy. "Vamos!" embodies the process of change designed to support implementation of the SDC’s Strategy 2010.

The VAMOS human resources strategy provides the SDC with a broad-based system for personnel development, values, staff planning, learning experiences and motivation. "Vamos" pursues the aim of identifying each employee’s potential and making best use of it to attain the organization’s objectives. The main focus is on development of the SDC and its staff. The changes experienced by the SDC, as an international cooperation/humanitarian aid player, and the Swiss federal administration in recent years will continue in future and will also impact on HR policy. If we see VAMOS (Let’s go!) as our starting point, then we are already “underway”.

HR policy principles

The SDC is an organization where …

- staff are encouraged to develop a profile in line with the SDC’s mission and values,

- learning and exchanging experiences is perceived as a permanent challenge and opportunity by all employees,

- communication – both within the SDC and in outside contacts – is frank, objective and constructive,

- women and men have the same opportunities to shape cooperation targets and culture.

The SDC is structured and organized so as to ensure that …

- tasks, skills and responsibilities are matched and delegated to the appropriate expertise level,

- quality standards for effective, cost-conscious performance are in place and are complied with, and

- flexible, interdisciplinary, task-focused work processes which motivate staff are promoted.
