Earthquake and Tsunami in Chile Switzerland comes to the aid of Chile’s earthquake victims Shortly after the
earthquake hit Chile, Switzerland dispatched a Rapid Response Team to the disaster-stricken region to appraise the needs of the population and to initiate emergency relief measures. As a result,
Switzerland is building emergency shelter, including sanitary facilities and drinking-water supplies, for 2000 poor persons living along the coast south of Concepción. In addition, four specialists
in construction engineering are being provided by Swiss Humanitarian Aid to flank the Chilean authorities with expert counsel in assessing damage to buildings and public infrastructure. In order to
replace, in the short term, premises that have been destroyed or rendered unsafe, Switzerland has made 15 giant-sized tents available to replace public installations such as schools or hospitals.
